FIELD MAPLE (Acer campestre)

Key: Aching heart

Field maple   is the only species of this family native to Britain.  It is quite common on chalky soils but is often not very obvious though it can grow to a tree up to 85 feet (26 metres).  The leaves have the familiar maple shape but are simpler with three main rounded lobes.  The leaves unfold a pink colour and become a butter yellow in autumn.  The small upright clusters of flowers in spring are green and not very noticeable.  The clearest time to identify field maple in the hedgerows is around the summer solstice when a second growth shows a bright red.  The burring and knots on the main trunk made field maple a decorative wood until replaced by imported maple woods.

There can be total security within the self that allows unconditional love to be given and received.  Field maple acts as a balance to those who desperately seek love without looking inside themselves to discover what may be pushing that love away.  Once achieved inside, love will appear wherever one looks.  This essence draws down a high wisdom energy from above the crown chakra and helps to establish it in the solar plexus chakra where it is able to manifest its power.

Physically, field maple can ease the respiratory system and blood flow, mainly through a deep relaxation and clarification of energy use.

There is understanding and a contentment for those who are overwhelmed by remorse or a sense of being responsible for events and accidents.  It can rebalance after shock.  Field maple enables one to return to centre.

It opens and balances the heart chakra allowing an expansion of the awareness of relationships to others and being part of an integrated universal web of interaction and growth.  The consciousness of universal love.

Emotional problems are calmed, especially where there is anger or over-aggression.  This is because field maple balances the love aspects of the self.
At the finest levels of energy this tree establishes a fine limited from the absolute, indefinable levels of creation, the void, to that place where boundaries and the relative levels of existence begin to emerge.  When this region becomes familiar it links one to an infinite source of awareness and power where self and universe merge.
