APPLE (Malus domesticus, Malus sylvestris)

Wild Crab Apple is native to Britain and found in hedgerows and oakwoods. Wild apple has mainly white flowers and some thorns. It is one of the original species from which the sweeter, larger domestic apples were grown. Domestic apples found in gardens and orchards are also common along paths and roadsides where discarded cores have been thrown. They are thornless and tend to have a larger, more pink tinged flower. Most other decorative crab apples have been introduced from the Far East. Cross-breeding and the many varieties of apple can make exact identification difficult. Domestic apple varieties have downy leaves while wild crab apple’s leaves are hairless.
With apple there is an increased balance of purpose, a clarity and ability to express needs precisely. With this influx of discrimination it becomes apparent which aspects of life are not productive, or that are even damaging. Choices can then be made to abandon inappropriate patterns in favour of those that will allow a growth of happiness and fulfilment.
The Large Intestine meridian can be cleansed, particularly of that sort of energy that creates apathy. With increased motivation there can be a greater assimilation of healing energy and repairs can be made to stressed or damaged tissue. The Circulation-Sex meridian (Pericardium, Heart Protector), is also given a boost where introverted cycles of gloom or jealousy are an issue. Here energy is focused on life-supporting, creative goals and the wise use of available resources.
The heart chakra is greatly affected by apple’s energy patterns. A cleansing and balancing of this area helps to give clarity to our spiritual direction and personal path – so apple can be used for indecision or doubt as to actions. There is a greater desire to enjoy life, to learn and make use of experiences. This can help both the timid to explore further and restrain the overly reckless from impulsive action. Perceptive insights become sharper and there is a greater access to higher states of awareness and the information that can flow from these levels.
The emotions are stabilised and directed into constructive channels whilst still maintaining a healthy lust for life. Harmony and understanding others becomes easier. Spiritual nature is opened up to wisdom, healing, a clearer understanding of self and to new areas of perception and inspiration.
In practical terms these effects strengthen the immune system via the thymus gland and speed up the removal of toxins through the large intestine. Clarity of mind and emotions reduces tension, and this new relaxation makes spiritual energies more easily available.
Signature: The cross section of the fruit is heart-shaped. The high roughage content and pectin within the fruit help to cleanse the physical system. The sharp juice of crab apple focuses the attention in the present.
Comment: Apple has been used as an effective detoxifier and cleanser for many years now. It can be a useful adjunct where there are issues of self-worth and feelings of guilt or uncleanliness. Equally apple can help when trying to avoid or give up inappropriate behaviour. Several times tobacco smokers have commented that it helps reduce the need for nicotine, or actually reduces the enjoyment of smoking after taking the apple essence into the auric field.
As a symbol apple has been connected to the sun, the yearly cycle, and the realms of the Otherworlds, particularly of Immortality and the Afterlife in Celtic, Norse and Greek mythologies. The picture can be somewhat clouded as the term “apple” has often been used as a generic term for many different types of fruit.
It is interesting to note that the pattern the planet Venus makes around the Earth over a several year period is the shape of an apple’s cross section, and that apple’s are many times linked to goddesses of love and beauty.
