GEAN (WILD CHERRY) (Prunus avium)

Key: Soothing.

The gean or mazzard  is a native British cherry of woodlands that grows to 80 feet (25m.).  In April and May clusters of white flowers emerge from chubby terminal buds before the leaves are fully out.  Gean is the original stock from which domestic cherries derive, though most of the wild fruit is taken by animals and birds.  The bark is characteristically shiny red-brown with horizontal banding.  Cherry wood is compact, fine-grained and heavy.  All green parts of the tree have a high content of hyocyanic acid that helps protect from predation.

Gean helps one to let go of unwanted patterns of behaviour, particularly where there is a problem with self-image such as during times of illness.  This essence will help with transition s of all kinds.

Sacral and solar plexus chakra are released from stress, again focusing where there are damaging or negative self-beliefs to do with sensuality, sexuality, creativity and physicality.

Gean has a soothing effect.  It seems to increase the effectiveness of the body-s natural painkillers, the endorphins and similar molecules, and so can prove useful where there is pain, inflammation and irritation.  Energy tends to be focused into the physical system and thus stimulate self-healing.  This energy flow enters smoothly into the subtle nervous system and helps to balance the whole system.  As the channels are cleared the sensation of pain is naturally reduced (pain is the body-s indication of a concentration or block of flow).

With gean it is possible to begin the process of purification and cleansing that allows growth and change into one’s life.  There can be a new clarity that arises from a greater understanding of self-compassion and acceptance.  With this calm and clarity there can be an increase of psychic skills including the perception of subtle beings and gaining access to ancient wisdom.

Signature: the sweetness of the fruit arises from the bitter astringency of leaves and twigs.  The non-green parts of the tree, that is those parts not containing the acid, are traditionally used to make soothing, pain-reducing remedies.

Comment: wild cherry tree spirit can be one of the most useful energies from which to ask aid wherever there is fear caused by disease or illness.  The spirit re-establishes a caring, life-supporting contact with the physical which is often denied such support by the fearful mind.
