OSIER ( Salix viminalis)

The osier is a member of the willow family that is usually a many-stemmed shrub from 10 -- 30ft
(3-6m). It is regularly coppiced to create fast-growing shoots or “withies” used in basket weaving. It can be easily recognised in summer from its very long blade-like leaves, dark green on top and silvery undersides. The leaf edges are untoothed and rolled in slightly. The flowers are borne separately as “pussy willows”.
This essence can be used when there is a need to accept and let go. It will relax the mind and let a deeper wisdom well up.
Osier strengthens the solar plexus chakra, particularly when it seems that a void lies behind existence and everything appears shallow and meaningless. This apparent blackness can be, in reality, an actual experience of the unrevealed, hidden or unmaifest levels of creation which has to be understood for what it is: the underlying vibration of all life.
Osier gives a more balanced approach to one’s relationship with others, neither being too forceful or overbearing nor too willing to accept others points of view. A broader understanding of concepts and experiences helps this approach. More energy can be given to personal beliefs so that it isn’t felt necessary to indoctrinate others or to get your own way regardless of other’s opinions.
At the mental level flexibility and creativity are encouraged in the concepts and ideas one holds and osier helps to acquire the wisdom enabling the individual to access and use the fundamental energy of the universe and the wisdom to use personal power correctly.
Signature: Being “cut down” is no disadvantage for the osier’s vitality simply makes more rapid, more flexible and useful shoots. Lack becomes the means to expand.
