ROWAN (Sorbus aucuparia)

Key: Nature

The rowan, also known as the mountain ash, grows at a higher altitude than any other native British tree. In the north its autumn foliage is the brightest of reds, though further south they fall early. Rowan is familiar from the masses of red berries the tree bears from midsummer onwards. The leaves consist of pairs of stalkless leaflets with forward-pointing serrations.  In May rowan has clusters of creamy white flowers with a warm, musky-sweet smell. It is usually a delicate, airy tree that can grow to 65ft (20m.).

Rowan enhances the ability to tune into the energies of nature. This is because it encourages focus and discipline and a clearing of perception that allows breakthroughs in awareness in order to contact deeper levels of universal consciousness. This broader perception is balanced with the ability to ground information and communication in an integrated and supportive manner.

Rowan helps to overcome illusions and encourage realistic spiritual aims and great creativity. The essence will even foster greater co-creativity as the limited self becomes submerged in its greater nature.

The Large Intestine meridian is stimulated helping to calm the emotions and overcome feelings of separation. Letting go and forgiving allows hidden qualities to be contacted. Fears can be uncovered and dissolved.

The heart chakra is filled with a nurturing serenity whilst the crown chakra is enabled to solve emotional blocks and re-configure awareness in a larger, more spacious and supportive environment. The higher chakra, the tenth, is brought to a state of purity, openness, expansion and emptiness, where the universal can easily flow in to the individual.

The fine subtle bodies, the causal and the spiritual, are energised though the effects tend to be practical: there can be an improvement in memory and a quietening down of over-excited thought processes. Memory recall is stimulated as is the ability to communicate with deep intuitive levels.

The spiritual body is cleansed of trauma and this can have a healing effect at the physical level on allergies and physical shock as it brings harmony to the immune system. At the same time such cleansing allows a better contact with devas and Earth spirits.

There is an increase in satisfaction and happiness. More space to think and identify needs.

The quality of opening up awareness to the universe means that rowan creates a connection to the “fixed stars”, very distant objects, which brings a deeper understanding of the cosmos and the ability to recognise and make use of that energy in a positive, creative way.

Signature: Growing in lonely, high, mountainous regions rowan mediates between the ethereal and the physical, like a yogi in solitary retreat.
