WHITE WILLOW (Salix alba)
Key: True Self
White willow is the largest of the British willows growing to 80ft (25m) and forming an open , but often narrow crown of large boughs. The long thin leaves have silvery hairs that are particularly dense on the undersides giving the tree its characteristic colour. Like all willows, it is fast-growing but fairly short lived, only rarely surviving to 100 years unless pollarded. The male and female flowers appear on separate trees in spring as the young leaves emerge. Male catkins are yellow and females green, later producing fluffy white seeds that are distributed on the wind.
White willow is characterised by the understanding and development of awareness of the whole being. It is able to access deep levels of knowledge, communication and devotion at many dimensional levels.
The solar plexus chakra is brought more energy that allows it to cleanse itself. This is at a level of a subtle cleansing, balancing the complementary energies of spirit and matter, energising the finest areas of potential and nudging them towards physical manifestation. In this particular combination, spirit is more enabled to infuse the individual being so that the influence of the smaller self, or ego, is taken out of the equation. When the personal influence lessens it is easier to become a clear channel for more universal energies.
At the same time the brow chakra is supported and its qualities enhanced. There is a greater clarification of all levels of communication and understanding, and the mental processes are allowed to perceive finer levels of reality.
Smaller chakras at the medulla oblongata and centre of the forehead are also activated resulting in the ability to see oneself within a broader perspective, as part of a larger pattern. This allows the self to be brought to a truer balance within itself. It also helps to prevent incorrect assumptions or arrogance about one’s state of knowledge. White willow will balance those aspects of life that are either too narrowly fixed on a mundane level or too rarified at a spiritual level. It will bring a more balanced vision of life in all its aspects.
Overall, there is a clarification and clearing of one’s relationship to the universe, to the whole. With this can be experienced a sense of bliss or bliss consciousness, with love welling up to flavour all perceptions with its integrating energy.
Signature: The silver-white foliage catches the eye like a tall, growing fountain. The cleansing and clarifying nature of this essence is represented by this silver shimmering. The open, many boughed form of the larger willows echoes the relaxation and openness to universal energies that the spirit of willow brings down to an individual, personal level.
